Installation Instructions

  • Click on "Download CAL Now!" located on the right side of your screen to download the installer.
  • Run the installer and follow the instructions.  By default, the CAL software is installed in the C:\Program Files\ISAT folder.
  • The installation creates an ISAT shortcut icon on your desktop.  Double-clicking this icon will start the CAL software.
  • If you DO NOT plan to use additional features of the CAL software, like the Local Caching Server or the Speech Feature, your installation is complete.
  • To enable students with audio accommodations to use the Speech Feature, follow the instructions on the Audio Accommodation page.

Configure the CAL Software Using Preferences

  • A utility program called "Preferences" is included as part of the CAL software installation.
  • It allows you to configure the following additional features of the CAL software:
    • Proxy
    • Secure Connection
    • Auto Update
    • Local Caching Server
    • Speech Feature
  • The "Preferences" program can be accessed from:
    Start Menu/Programs/ISAT/Preferences

Configure the CAL Software to Use the LCS

This section helps you to configure the CAL software to use the LCS set up in your network.

  1. Open the CAL Preferences program.
  2. Select the "Local Caching Server" tab.
  3. Check "Enable Local Caching Server Configuration" and add the IP and port where the LCS is listening.  By default, the LCS listens on port 8100.
  4. Click "Apply".
  5. Select the "Troubleshoot" tab and click on "Run Tests" to verify that the computer is able to connect to the LCS.
  6. If the computer is not able to connect to the LCS, make sure that the LCS is running by using the LCS Monitoring Tool.  Also make sure that your computers are able to find the LCS in your network using the IP and port entered in step 3.
  7. Click OK.
Once the CAL software is properly configured to use the LCS, take any of the practice tests available and use the statistics in the LCS Monitoring Tool to verify that practice tests are downloaded from the LCS.

Troubleshoot the CAL Software

  • This section helps you troubleshoot whether the CAL software is properly configured to administer tests.
  • To check whether the CAL software is able to connect to the CAL Data Center, open the CAL Preferences program and run the tests on the Troubleshoot tab.  The results of the test will show whether the CAL software is connecting to the CAL Data Center.
  • If the results show that the CAL software is not connecting to the CAL Data Center, click on the Log File tab in the CAL Preferences program, click on the "Copy Log File Contents" button, paste the contents into a text file, and email it to ISAT@datarecognitioncorp.com.  We will review the file and recommend a solution.

Update to CAL 5.6.1 using Patches

  • If you currently have CAL 5.6, you have the option of using this patch file to upgrade the software to version 5.6.1.  Remember that the CAL software has an Automatic Update feature embedded and, unless you turned this feature off, you should be able to get the update automatically without using this patch.
